Mainland B.C. Day 4 and 5

The marsh area next to Osoyoos Lake (touted as the warmest lake in Canada) is an amazing habitat with rare species of bat, snake (the night snake was only discovered in the 1980's!), birds and even beavers.

Beaver dam in the wrong place! One of the main outlets of the marsh is kept open by park staff. No sign of the beaver itself though! We did spot a musk rat.

The only desert in Canada! Osoyoos desert centre with a boardwalk and guided tour was an excellent way to get to know the desert.

Cactus!

Californian Quail nest.

Home of the Spadefoot. An amphibian that is not a frog or a toad and lives under the ground 80% of its life!

Owl pellet found under an interpretation point.

Model railway world helped cool us down after our time in the desert and entertained the kids for quite some time.

Day and night time occurs in the centre. Owned by a Dutch husband and wife. The husband is the designer and builder, the wife paints the buildings and people. It is estimated she has painted over 200,000 figures!!! Their daughter drives the trains too.

Tac El Nuit Lake, our camp on the second night. The kids met some children and had a great time together.

Cooling down in the evening.

Heading north now on day 5 towards Summerland. Amazing limestone cliffs.

Our chance to experience the age of steam on the Summerland railway.

All that is left of the Kettle Valley railway is 10km, now preserved and loved by enthusiasts who keep the oil powered steam train going all year round.

On top of Summerland's extinct volcanoes catching the views and the cool breeze.

Some of the views from the extinct volcano in Summerland. The watered areas are very obvious in this dry landscape.

Beautiful bird reserve near Vernon is our camp on day 5.

Fortunately we had a pool for swimming in as the Lake had swimmers itch!
